Blessed Trinity running back Jayden Gurzi-MacDonald was standing on the sidelines getting a cut on his arm attended to when he was approached by a member of the Thunder coaching staff.
“I think we might need you for some plays on defence,” the coach said.
Gurzi-MacDonald didn’t hesitate for a second, quickly blurting out his answer.

Austin MacRae was in midseason form for the Saint Michael Mustangs in their season opener Thursday.
The 16-year-old, Grade 11 quarterback ran for two touchdowns and threw for another as the Mustangs defeated the Denis Morris 36-14 to open the Niagara Catholic Athletic Association senior boys football season at DM.
“It’s a confidence boost in the first game, I think,” MacRae said. “It’s like we keep rolling from here.
“We wanted to come in today and move the ball around and get players used to playing the game at a fast pace and get down our plays because we started late but I think we’re working well.”

The Saint Michael Mustangs senior football team ended last year’s football season on a high by defeating the Saint Paul Patriots 34-26 in the Niagara Catholic Athletic Association bronze medal game.
It was the first year back with a senior team at the school after a one-year absence and the Mustangs were much better at the end of the season compared to the start.
The 2022 campaign will pay dividends in 2023.
