Hodgson commits to Wisconsin

BP Sports NiagaraAfter making official visits to several NCAA Division 1 universities, Wisconsin ended up being the rowing destination for Ava Hodgson.

“My parents and I really focus on education and it is top 10 for my program which is biomedical engineering,” the Grades 12 student at Saint Michael said. “And it was also the coaches and atmosphere of the team. They are very inviting and honest and the way they run their practices is very methodical and well thought out. You can really see the benefits and there is great camaraderie.”

The clinching moment in her decision came when she was hanging out with the girls and other people on the team.

NCAA D1 champs land Carter

BP Sports NiagaraWhen Jaela Carter went looking for an American university to pursue her hockey dreams, she didn’t mess around.

The Grade 12 student at Saint Michael has committed to play with the Clarkson Golden Knights in Potsdam, N.Y. The NCAA Division 1 program made the NCAA tournament in 2012-13 as an at-large bid and lost in quarter-finals. In 2023-24, the Golden Knights went 31-5-5 overall and won the NCAA championship.

“They were the second school I visited and I fell in love with it when I was on campus,” the 17-year-old Niagara Falls resident said.

One in a Millian Mustang

BP Sports NiagaraZoe Millian’s dream is about to come true.

The 17-year-old, Grade 12 student at Saint Michael Catholic High School leaves this week for the Four Nations U18 Women’s Hockey Tournament in Slovakia where she will suit up as a member of Team France.

“I’m really grateful to represent my country because I was born there,” Millian said. “I’m super excited. It’s huge. I’ve been working so hard for this, so I’m really excited.
