Payton’s place is atop podium

bpsports sgauthier smchs 082122Payton Gauthier concluded his Niagara 2022 Canada Summer Games experience with a pair of rowing gold medals around his neck.

After winning gold in the eight Saturday, the 18-year-old Niagara Falls native teamed with Niko Schramm, Michael Ciepiela and Aidan Hembruff to capture first place in the men’s four Sunday.

“Canada Games was a lot of fun. We got back from worlds and went straight into training camp,” the Niagara Falls Rowing Club member said. “It was nice because most of the people on the Canada Games team were at worlds so we were already really familiar with each other. The few individuals that weren’t, meshed super quickly with us and it made it super easy to get into combos and get some great results.”

Striker heads to Mohawk

The 18-year-old graduate of Saint Michael Catholic High School in Niagara Falls has committed to play soccer and study early childhood education at Mohawk College.

“I think one of the things that pushed me towards Mohawk was I wanted to be away from home. I wanted to experience life away from home,” Cupiraggi said.

Double gold for Dallman

bpsports niagara smchs 061422Tommy Dallman’s first high school track and field season did not begin with expectations he would win Ontario Federation of School Athletic Associations’ gold medals in junior boys shot put and discus.

“I guess it was trying my best at every practice, showing up and getting people to push me to do my best.” Those motivating him onward and upward were his parents, Jill and Tyler Dallman, and his buddy, Carson Gauthier.
