Allen selected for Team Ontario

bpsportsniagara smchs 02092023The 15-year-old, Saint Michael Catholic High School student is the lone local player and one of five from the Ontario Minor Hockey Association selected to play for Team Ontario at the 2023 Canada Winter Games in Prince Edward Island.

“It’s an actual honour to be representing my team and province, for sure,” Allen said. “It’s really good hockey against the top players in the country.

Mustangs Edge Patriots

bpsports niagara smchs 01112023The Saint Michael Mustangs and Saint Paul Patriots opened the 66th Annual Welland Tribune Basketball Tournament Wednesday in dramatic fashion.

Tied 36-36 with 4:41 left in the game, the game was tied three more times before the Mustangs scored the game’s last four points in the final 32.2 seconds to record a 46-42 triumph.

“We started out really slow and finally we got back into it in the third quarter,” Saint Mike’s head coach Keith Bomberry said.

Mustangs rally past Patriots

bpsports niagara 11-10-2022 smchsIn his wildest dreams, Jacob Gigliotti couldn’t have envisioned a more exciting and thrilling way to end his high school football career.

The 18-year-old, Grade 12B student scored three touchdowns to help the Saint Michael Mustangs upset the Saint Paul Patriots 34-26 in the Niagara Catholic Athletic Association bronze medal game Thursday at Saint Paul.

“It feels unbelievable,”Gigliotti said. “My whole career at the end we used to lose to Saint Paul. We never won. But wow, what a last ride to beat them on their own home turf.”
