Mustangs rally past Patriots

bpsports niagara 11-10-2022 smchsIn his wildest dreams, Jacob Gigliotti couldn’t have envisioned a more exciting and thrilling way to end his high school football career.

The 18-year-old, Grade 12B student scored three touchdowns to help the Saint Michael Mustangs upset the Saint Paul Patriots 34-26 in the Niagara Catholic Athletic Association bronze medal game Thursday at Saint Paul.

“It feels unbelievable,”Gigliotti said. “My whole career at the end we used to lose to Saint Paul. We never won. But wow, what a last ride to beat them on their own home turf.”

Mustangs dominate Reds

The 16-year-old, Grade 11 student turned in a standout performance Friday leading the Saint Michael Mustangs past the Denis Morris Reds 29-0 in Niagara Catholic Athletic Association senior boys football action, but all Cuthbert wanted to do was talk about his teammates.

The Saint Michael Mustangs senior football team improved to 2-3 in NCAA play with a 22-6 victory over the Lakeshore Catholic Gators.

“Saint Michael took many penalties that took away many positive yards. Our team needs more disciplined if we are going to beat Denis Morris this Friday,” Mustangs head coach Brian Carter said.

Saint Michael Catholic High School grad sets Niagara College scoring records in women’s soccer

niagara this week smchs 10132022Sydney Sica is playing out her eligibility in women’s soccer at the post-secondary level in record-setting fashion, much to the chagrin of goalkeepers in the Ontario College Athletics Association (OCAA) West Division.

Wednesday night in Toronto was no exception for the Niagara Knights midfielder. The graduate of Saint Michael Catholic High School in Niagara Falls accounted for all of her team’s scoring in a 2-2 draw with the host Humber Hawks.
